My Take on ‘Man of Steel’

After watching the movie I took to Twitter and announced “Really don’t know how to feel about @ManofSteelMovie. I will have to think on this.” I spent the evening thinking about the movie and I have come to this conclusion: I still don’t know what to think. So I am just going to start writing about ‘Man of Steel’ and see if I can figure out how I feel about it.

BTW…. There will be spoilers… You have been warned… (more…)

Big budget plus big talent plus anticipation doesn’t always equal hit. In fact, more times than not it is the opposite. Thus the reason I am guarding my expectations on the latest reboot of the venerable comic book franchise. The parts are there for a ‘Dark Knightian’ success. But let’s not go there just yet. (Inside I have serious nerdgasms every time I see the different trailers for this movie)

Let’s hope Chris Nolan and Zach Snyder have captured lightning in a bottle because I really want to see a Nolan/Snyder ‘Justice League’ movie with Christian Bale playing an older, broken Bruce Wayne as mentor to Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Nightwing and all the others in the Halls of Justice. I really feel the success of this film will determine the future of the Justice League.

The Man with the Iron Fists

This film marks not only the screenwriting debut but also the feature fim directing debut of Wu-Tang Clan alum RZA. He actually triple threats in this, getting in front of the camera as well. RZA co-wrote this look into feudal China with Eli Roth. The movie is about a small town blacksmith who is forced to defend himself and his fellow townsfolk. With Eli Roth’s paws on this, you know it is going to be bloody and violent but this time it is more tongue in cheek than his signature ‘gore porn’.  They are taking on the kung-fu genre very seriously but keeping it fun and possibly campy. I think it is worth a watch.

(It should go without saying but I will say this anyway. This is the Red Band Trailer so it is NSFW, mostly because of the violence)

Les Misérables

I have always been a lover of the theater. I have acted, directed, costumed, make-uped, managed… pretty much anything and everything to do with the theater I have done and loved. I caught the bug early in my life. And musical theater combines two of my loves; music and theater… duh…

This happens to be one of my favorite musicals. The part of Jean Valjean is one of the hardest roles, musically,  for a male lead. The range needed to play that role effectively is IN-SANE! Hat’s off to you Mr. Jackman. Another thing about this play I have noticed… It might just be me, but in every production I have ever seen, the woman who plays Éponine is always waaaaaay hotter than the woman who plays Cosette. (And no, I am not talking about the young Cossette… you pervs…) Again this rings true for me in this one; Samantha Barks is infinitely more beautiful than Amanda Seyfried. It might just be me.

In this teaser we get a look at the scope and scale of this beautiful film; all the while serenaded by the immensely talented Anne Hathaway as Fantine. But we don’t get to see the character that everyone tells me I should portray if I ever get to do this show; Thénardier, who is played by Sacha Baron Cohen. Ah well… I will just have to wait till Christmas to see him sing “Master of the House”.
